Dirk Knemeyerillä on tärkeää asiaa siitä, miksi käyttäjäkokemusta tulisi ajatella kokonaisvaltaisesti, eikä rajoittua vaikkapa vain käytettävyyteen: Beyond the pixels: consider the entire experience. Lainatakseni:
”The user experience is influenced by far more than the applications we are creating. Indeed, the nature and quality of those experiences are largely defined by the interface devices that people are using: outputs like the displays that we view, or inputs like the keyboard, mouse or stylus that we often use.
[…] Each application, and all of the applications being used in concert, behave differently from one display to the other. Likewise, the experience of using your computer while sitting at a desk as opposed to using a small convergent device while walking on a park or city street represent incredibly different experiences.
[…] Often times, the greatest barrier to a robust user experience is the hardware, not the software.”
Ystäväiseni otti asian taannoin puheeksi mainitsemalla erään matkapuhelinmallin, jossa kuulemani mukaan on metallikuoret. Tuntuu muuten varmasti mukavalta talvipakkasella poskea vasten. Mahtavasti suunnitellut käyttöliittymät eivät taida juuri lämmittää.
