Web Standards Groupin piinapenkkiin on joutunut Autistic Cuckoo -blogin kirjoittaja Tommy Olsson, jonka kanssa jutellaan mukavia mm. web-standardeista ja saavutettavuudesta. Html-koodin ja standardien kanssa enemmän tekemisissä olevalle haastattelusta on varmasti hyötyä, mutta kaltaiselleni pehmeämpien asioiden kanssa painivalle Tommyn ajatuksen saavutettavuudesta ovat sitä parasta (ja lohdullista) antia:

”Seriously, though, you cannot achieve 100% accessibility; there are too many different – and often conflicting – requirements and needs. You can definitely achieve a reasonable level of accessibility, without too much work. Accessibility is mainly about not putting up barriers for your visitors. If you require Flash or JavaScript, you automatically shut out a certain percentage of the users.

[…] Some seem to believe that this automatically means that an accessible site must be plain and boring, text only, and no JavaScript. That’s not true at all. You can have a stunning visual design, images, JavaScript, Flash and whatnot … as long as it degrades gracefully. A user who cannot take advantage of the flashy stuff should still be able to access the content. That’s what it’s all about.”
